🌸 Sangawa Pre-Cruise Meetup (Casual & Optional!)

If you’re attending Sangawa Project next month, we’re planning a casual Tekko’s Tropical Voyage pre-cruise meetup during the convention!

Sangawa Project is an 18+ (adults-only) event presented by The Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society, taking place February 6–8, 2026, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh Downtown.

This meetup is intended to be:

  • Relaxed and informal

  • A chance to meet fellow cruisers in person

  • No programming, no pressure – just a fun opportunity to connect

Whether you’re sailing solo, with friends, or just want to put faces to names before embarkation, this is a great low-key way to start building cruise camaraderie early.

📍 When & where:
Details will be announced in the official Tekko’s Tropical Voyage Facebook group, and possibly shared in other channels as well. So keep an eye out if you’ll be at Sangawa and want to join!

Official Pre-Cruise Hotel: Arrive Early, Sail Easy

Radisson Resort at the Port

To help make embarkation day as smooth and stress-free as possible, Tekko has secured an official pre-cruise hotel block for attendees arriving the day before the cruise. This hotel serves as the primary pre-cruise gathering point and offers optional transportation to Port Canaveral.

Stay at the Radisson Resort at the Port

Tekko’s Tropical Voyage attendees are invited to stay at this resort hotel conveniently located near Port Canaveral. It’s an ideal place to relax, meet fellow attendees, and get ready for embarkation day.

Hotel highlights:

  • Reserved room block exclusively for Tekko’s Tropical Voyage attendees

  • Rates starting at $179 per night

  • Outdoor pool with waterfall and hot tub

  • On-site restaurant and lounge

  • Fitness center

  • Complimentary Wi-Fi

  • Luggage storage available

  • Transportation options available between the hotel, airport, and cruise port

  • Priority shuttle transportation available to Port Canaveral for guests in our room block

Why stay pre-cruise?
Arriving a day early helps reduce travel stress, allows smoother coordination of transportation, and ensures you’re rested and ready to enjoy embarkation day without rushing.

🗓️ Booking Details & Deadline

  • Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis

  • To take advantage of the reserved group, rooms should be booked by February 22, 2026

  • Payment is made at time of check-in, not at time of booking

  • If the room block sells out prior to that date, attendees may contact [email protected] to be added to the block based on hotel availability at the time of booking.

By Phone:
• Call the hotel directly at 321-868-6573
• Or call Radisson Central Reservations at 800-333-3333
Be sure to mention the group name: Tekko’s Tropical Voyage Cruise

💡 Note: During the online booking process, you may see an option to add hotel travel insurance. If you’ve already purchased third-party travel insurance (such as Allianz or Chubb), there is generally no need to purchase additional insurance for the hotel, as it would already be covered.

  • Check-in: 4:00 PM

  • Check-out: 11:00 AM
Early arrival or late departure requests are subject to availability and handled directly by the hotel.

Pre- & Post-Cruise Ground Transportation Options

To make arrival and embarkation as smooth as possible, multiple transportation options are available for Tekko’s Tropical Voyage attendees. Whether you’re flying, driving, or staying at the official hotel, transportation can be coordinated between the airport, hotel, and cruise port.

These options are designed to reduce stress on embarkation day and help ensure everyone arrives on time and ready to sail.

Common Transportation Scenarios

Most attendees will fall into one of the following categories:

  • ✈️ Flying in on embarkation day:
Orlando International Airport → Port Canaveral

  • 🏨 Flying in early and staying at the hotel:
Airport → Radisson Resort at the Port → Cruise Port

  • 🚗 Driving in and staying at the hotel:
Hotel → Cruise Port (parking available)

  • 🛳️ After the cruise:
Cruise Port → Airport or Cruise Port → Hotel

💡 Arrival and departure transportation do not need to follow the same route. For example, you may fly in before the cruise and drive home afterward.

Guests with unique or extended travel plans are always welcome to reach out directly so we can review options together.

📝 How to Arrange Transportation

To arrange airport or cruise port transportation, please complete the transportation form below or email me directly. This allows us to coordinate details accurately based on your travel plans.

💡 Helpful Tip: The transportation form can be submitted more than once. If you’re still finalizing details, you don’t need to schedule all transportation at once. You can reuse the form later to add or update different transportation options as your plans come together.

Flight Recommendations & Helpful Booking Advice

If you haven’t booked flights yet, now is a good time to start narrowing things down. Below are some important tips to help your travel days go smoothly, especially around embarkation and return timing.

🛬 Where to Fly

  • Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the closest major airport to Port Canaveral and the recommended airport for this cruise.

  • The Port Canaveral area is typically a 45-minute drive from MCO (and often longer with traffic).

  • The next closest major airport is over two hours away, which can add unnecessary complexity and travel time.

🧭 Arrival Timing & Embarkation Day

  • Highly recommended: Fly in the day before the cruise whenever possible.
This is the best way to reduce stress and protect your trip from flight delays.

  • If you do plan to fly in on embarkation day:

    • Your flight should arrive in the morning

    • The ship sails at 4:00 PM

    • All passengers must be on board by 2:00 PM so the ship can be cleared to depart

    • The ship does not wait for late arrivals and will sail without you

Even though the drive from Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral is usually 45–60 minutes, traffic accidents or delays can significantly increase that travel time.

🔁 Return Flight Timing (April 13)

  • I do not recommend booking return flights earlier than 12:00 PM (noon) on April 13.

  • This allows time for:

    • Disembarkation

    • Luggage collection

    • Transportation back to the airport

  • The drive back to MCO alone averages 45–55 minutes, and Orlando International Airport can get very busy.

🛫 Connections & Layovers

When booking flights with connections:

  • Avoid any layovers shorter than one hour

  • Even if a shorter connection is cheaper, the risk of missing your connection usually isn’t worth it

  • While April isn’t winter and delays are less common, missing a connection at the start of your trip is especially stressful

If possible, longer connections or nonstop flights are preferable for peace of mind.

💺 Economy vs. Basic Economy (Important Notes)

I’m able to assist with flight bookings through Royal Caribbean’s Air2Sea program, which often provides competitive pricing without additional service fees. That said:

  • I can only book standard Economy fares, not Basic Economy

  • If you prefer Basic Economy, I’m happy to:

    • Recommend flight options

    • Walk you through the booking process

  • Booking Basic Economy directly may involve airline service fees that are outside my control

A quick airline-specific note:

  • United Airlines Basic Economy does not allow carry-on bags in the cabin and requires them to be checked for a fee, in addition to other common Basic Economy restrictions (seat assignment, no changes, etc.)

🛳️ Air2Sea: A Cruise-Managed Flight Option

Royal Caribbean’s Air2Sea program allows you to book flights directly through the cruise line.

Why some guests choose Air2Sea:

  • ✈️ Flights are coordinated with your cruise itinerary

  • 🔄 If a flight delay causes you to miss embarkation, Royal Caribbean will work to get you to the ship at the next port

  • 🧭 Added peace of mind for travelers who prefer cruise-managed air arrangements

Things to keep in mind:

  • Air2Sea fares are typically Economy class, not Basic Economy

  • Seat selection and airline policies vary by carrier

  • Flights are still operated by major airlines. Air2Sea simply handles the coordination
